It has captivating fossils, petroglyphs, and a self-guided scenic drive that vie for the attention of visitors. Nine Mile Canyon public lands host remarkably well-preserved Native American art and archaeology. The Pariette Wetlands is a wildlife oasis in a harsh environment. The historic Jarvie Property near Vernal provides an intriguing view of frontier life at the turn of the 19th century. The Utah Field House of Natural History takes visitors back through time, incorporating life-size statues of dinosaurs in an extraordinary garden and providing diverse archeological and geological insights. Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, named for the fantastic colors of the sun-drenched red rocks, immerses visitors in nature and history.
Nearby Robert Redford’s Sundance is rated as one of the top resorts in America and provides a wide variety of year-round entertainment. Sundance is best known for its world-class skiing and the International Film Festival (January).
Further west is the artistic and political center of Utah, Salt Lake City, where visitors can enjoy the Utah Museum of Natural History, Pioneer Memorial Museum, Hansen Planetarium, Tracy Aviary, Hoagle Zoo, and Red Butte Garden and Arboretum.

Directions: From Salt Lake City, take I-80 east and onto Hwy. 40/189 to Heber City. Continue on the highway past Heber City about 70 miles to the Starvation Reservoir Freedom Bridge. Cross the bridge and turn right.
