South of Gaylord, in northern Lower Michigan, Benjamin’s Beaver Creek Resort is less than an hour from the famous Mackinac Bridge, which  leads to the island area and Upper Michigan.

During the winter months Beaver Creek is just minutes from some of the best skiing in the state. Whether you prefer to strap on cross-country skis or take to the challenging slopes, you’ll find the area accommodating with five major ski resorts.

In the summer, golfers take delight in being in the Heart of America’s Summer Golf Capital, composed of 23 championship courses. Fifteen courses are within 35 miles of the resort and all 23 can be reached in an hour or less. Each course blends expert design with spectacular settings for a unique golfing experience in Michigan’s rolling woodlands.

Spring brings morel mushrooms, and in the fall, well, the colors will take your breath away!     While the places to visit and things to do abound in this charming state, visitors often like to stay close to Gaylord and the resort.

Gaylord is an Alpine Village that has a long-term relationship with Pentresina, Switzerland, her proclaimed sister city. Countless examples of Swiss theme architecture grace the thoroughfares of this north country jewel.     The people here even model themselves after the Swiss with a reputation for hospitality, accord among people of many ethnic backgrounds, and plain good fun.

Just eight miles north of Gaylord is the village of Vanderbilt and the Pigeon River Country State Forest, one of Michigan’s most picturesque wilderness areas. The acknowledged “Gateway to the Pigeon River Country State Forest,” the area is the home of the Dept. of Natural Resources headquartered in the 83,000-acre forest.

Among the unique attractions is the Witness Tree, a virgin tree marked during the original land survey of Michigan in 1850.
