Built at the site of a former Native American village, Bear Cave Resort is a riverfront property located about 20 miles east of Lake Michigan that is popular with fishermen.     Buchanan, the Red Bud City built along the St. Joseph River, is known for its beautiful blossoms, camping, golf, skiing, and year-round fishing. The area is the home of Fernwood Nature Center, a 100-acre nature preserve offering special programs and tours throughout the year.  A restored gristmill and Bear Cave serve as reminders of the history of this colorful city.

Bear Cave is on the Red Bud Trail near the resort. Its historic events include serving as a dwelling of Potawatomi Indians, playing a part in the underground slave-freedom movement, and as a setting for filming the Train Robbery movie. Visitors can see traces of Native American artifacts, flowstone, petrified leaves, and vegetation.

The Tabor Hill Winery and Restaurant in Buchanan offers wine-tasting and dining in a scenic setting — rolling hills, fragrant vineyards, and an uninterrupted view of the Lake Michigan sand dunes.     Warren Dunes State Park on the shore of Lake Michigan and Warren Woods State Park are both popular spots for visitors.

North of the resort, Berrien Springs, also located along the St. Joseph River, offers a diversity of year-round fishing activities. The city is surrounded by orchards and vineyards, which produce award-winning wines. This scenic community is the site of state and national registered historic landmarks including Andrews University and the 1839 Courthouse Museum.

The Lemon Creek Fruit Farms, Vineyard and Winery here has been family owned and operated for more than 100 years. Enjoy free wine tasting and tours, and pick your own fresh fruits in season.

Notre Dame University is about 35 miles south in South Bend, Indiana.
