Resort Profile

At 1,250 feet above sea level, the spacious campsites at Frosty Acres Camping Resort overlook the Capital-Saratoga Region. The resort’s three spring-fed ponds are inviting to anyone seeking a leisurely day of fishing or boating. Abundant nearby attractions include the Governor Nelson Rockefeller Empire State Plaza and New York State Museum in Albany, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, the thoroughbred racing excitement of Saratoga, and the famous Howes Cavern in Howes Cave, New York.

Albany is the capital city of the Empire State and one of the oldest cities in the United States. It was named the capital of New York State in 1797. Because of its riverside location and system of turnpikes that fanned out from the city, Albany was a transportation hub of the northeast, and with the creation of the Erie Canal, Albany’s development as a business and banking center fueled the return to prosperity from the economic doldrums created by the War of 1812. Here the Empire State Plaza is not only a government complex encompassing a convention center, but also a performing arts center, the New York State Museum, and the world’s largest contemporary art collection.

North of Albany, the nation’s oldest thoroughbred race track, the Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, runs 24 days of thoroughbred racing each August, and the Saratoga Raceway offers harness racing February through November. Cooperstown, New York, just a short drive west from the resort, is best known as the home of the national Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Just as its name implies, it honors baseball’s famous heroes, recalls the game’s greatest moments, and presents sport’s history through artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia.

Howes Cavern was discovered by a local farmer in 1842 when he investigated why his cows were standing out in the hot sun and discovered cold air blowing up from the cavern.
