Resort Profile

Near Pendleton Bridge on the Louisiana shoreline of Toledo Bend Reservoir, Southern Leisure is located in the state’s Sportsman’s Paradise Region. Toledo Bend Reservoir, which stretches along the Louisiana-Texas border for 60 miles and covers 186,000 acres, is world-famous for its largemouth bass. The resort’s boat launch opens this “sportsman’s paradise” to fishing and boating fun for your entire family.

Near the town of Many, visitors can tour the Ft. Jesup State Commemorative Area or Hodges Gardens. Ft. Jesup was built by Zachary Taylor in 1822 to secure the western boundary of the United States. The site includes the original kitchen/mess hall and museum housed in a replica of the officer’s quarters.

Beautiful Hodges Gardens is an artful pattern of multi-level formal gardens set among 4,700 acres of rolling pine forest. Guests are welcome to visit the gift shop, greenhouses, wildlife pasture, and picnic areas. Between Many and Hodges Gardens on U.S. 171 is the Village of Fisher, a small, picturesque sawmill village that’s a Louisiana landmark on the National Register.

One-hour guided tours are offered to see the original church, commissary, post office, opera house, office building, railroad depot, and houses all intact and surrounded by white picket fences.

October visitors to Southern Leisure can look forward to the Tamale Festival in nearby Zwolle, when thousands of hot, spicy tamales are made in a weekend celebration on the second weekend of the month to commemorate the area’s Spanish heritage.
